St Just in Bloom – Champion of Champions Winner

St Just in Bloom share the first place in the Champion of Champions group at the South West in Bloom presentation awards at Taunton Cricket Club yesterday.

Yesterday at Taunton the South West in Bloom held their annual presentation and celebration day. The Champion of Champions class is a very special class. It contains the nine groups that won the bloom group classes in 2015. That is towns and villages of certain sizes competing against each other. They were Weston Super Mare; Kingsbridge in Bloom; Truro; Sherborne; Cannington; St Issey; Portishead; Sidmouth and St Just. The judging for this group was carried out  by John Wheatley, whose is the chairman of SW in Bloom and also a national judge. All the nine entrants were gold winners again in 2016 with then title of Champion of Champions being shared, for the first time, between St Just and Sherborne. In fact 1 point separated the top five towns.

What a fantastic achievement for St Just was the first comment from their chairman Chris Goninan who is still having great difficulty in believing it has happened. He wishes to thank his absolutely brilliant committee of 13 people who now serve and also past members for all their dedication and commitment to the project over the last thirteen years.  Also to  all the community groups, the It’s Your Neighbourhood entries,  businesses and people who have supported them. Without you this would not have been possible. This is a very, very special accolade for St Just and I am very proud to have been involved in it was his final comment.

Tonight at 6.30pm in the British Legion at St Just the Bloom group will hold their presentation evening when the award cups and certificates for the school painting competition—would you believe Ella Chalwin from Cape Cornwall Comprehensive won the SW in Bloom under 16 competition–absolutely magic—-and to the gardens and photographic competitions.
