At the Town Council meeting on Monday 22nd June, councillors unanimously agreed to pursue the proposal of an advisory 20mph speed restriction through the town, together with signage warning that there may be pedestrians in the road.
This follows several weeks of consulting with residents and businesses in the town, and this was the proposal which attracted widespread support.
Speed of traffic through the town has concerned residents for some time, so this is an opportunity to introduce a reduced limit as a temporary measure, with financial support from Cornwall Council, helping us build evidence towards a more permanent change. This change is aimed at safety, as the town becomes busier after lockdown.
We are now working to implement the speed restriction and signage as soon as possible.
We’d like to thank the many people who took the time to share their opinions and ideas with us, and hope that the approaching summer will be safe for our residents as well as successful for our businesses.
