A new Mayor and Deputy Mayor for St Just in Penwith Town Council

At the Town’s Annual meeting on 17th May 2021, the first task of the new Council was to elect a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor. There was a unanimous vote for Councillor Sue James to be Mayor and Councillor Daisy Carlyon Gibbs to become Deputy Mayor.

At the end of the meeting they donned their chains to capture the moment with the backdrop in the Library perhaps suggesting they are becoming the community’s partners in Crime!

Later Sue said “I’m sure our first photo captures that we want to be seen as just ordinary fun loving, passionate folk serving our community as we emerge from the difficult period of the pandemic. I hope that my experience will blend with Daisy’s youth and boundless energy to meet the challenges ahead and serve our community well.”

Daisy was visibly thrilled and honoured to be chosen for the role, wanting to throw herself into it and give a positive role model to younger people in the Parish; to get them involved in local decision making and consider stepping up to be a Councillor, perhaps to fill one of 4 current vacancies.
