Re-election of Town Mayor

Last night at the Annual Meeting of the Town Council Cllr Kevin McFadden was re-elected as Mayor for a second term of office.  Cllr Neil McFadden was also re-elected as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Kevin McFadden said ” I am looking forward to building on the work that we as Council have completed over the last 12 months and to facing future challenges in the light of further budget cuts at Cornwall Council.”

Cornwall Council – Community Chest 2014-15

Cornwall Councillor Sue James has revealed details of this year’s Community Chest Fund.  In 2014 – 15, £2,195 will be available to support local projects.  Details on how to apply for funding can be found by clicking on the link.

St Just War Memorial Upgrade

Repairs to the War Memorial Clock to commence.

Following repeated interruptions to the electricity supply which affects the clock’s mechanism the Town Council recently approved expenditure to upgrade the mechanism which will mean that in future, the clock will not be affected by cuts in the electricity supply and will not stop.  The mechanism is to be removed on 22 April and the clock will be out of action for a few weeks.

The BBC are currently casting for a new UK travel/property programme. Children’s Ark, Pendeen Visit Council Offices

Last Friday, the Town Clerk received an unexpected, but very welcome visit from the Children’s Ark, Pendeen.

About twenty childrP1030207en and staff visited the Council Offices, the purpose of which was to present a “thank you” card from the children for the recent grant that the Town Council had given to the Ark towards the cost of a new outdoor play area. The play area has now been completed and as you can see is thoroughly enjoyed by all.

New Goal Posts for St Just Recreation Ground

The Town Council last night unanimously agreed to accept a quotation from Cornwall Council to provide a new pair junior goal posts at the recreation ground.  The order has been placed and it is hoped that the new posts will be installed in the coming weeks.

Oak Bridge Repair at Portherras

The Friends of Portherras Cove are pleased to announce that thanks to some dedicated fund-finding by Hamish Gordon, Countryside Officer & his team at Cormac, and together with Ian Flindall at Chypraze Farm work is due to commence this week on a brand new oak bridge to span the Rose Valley stream (at the stepping stones).
