Dog Ban on the Plain-an-Gwarry

The Town Council  at its meeting on 7 April 2015 took the unanimous decision to ban dogs from the Plain-an-Gwarry, St Just due to the potential health risks to the public following an increase in dog fouling in that area.  The Plain-an-Gwarry, is a protected scheduled ancient monument, used to host a variety of public events and the increase in dog fouling was causing the Council considerable cause for concern.

Library and One Stop Shop Service Consultation

 

 

2 April 2015 – Briefing note from Cornwall Council

  

Following agreement on the Council’s four year budget plan, approved in February, Cornwall Council is having to review the library and one stop shop service.

As part of the £176 million savings that have to be made over the next four years, savings of £1.8 million have to be made from the library and one stop shop service’s £4 million budget.

Cornwall Council wants to hear from as many people as possible to help shape its proposals.

Please help to promote the consultation and direct people to either attend a drop-in session and /or complete the survey questionnaire, which is available online and in hard copy.

Information will be available on the Council’s website along with a link to the survey questionnaire.

Public consultation

The 10 week public consultation and engagement will began today ,2 April and will end on 10 June 2015.

Drop-in sessions

Cornwall Council will be holding public drop in sessions in branch libraries.

The public can be involved in the consultation in a number of ways, including:

  • In person by attending a drop-in session at one of our libraries;
  •  Using the online questionnaire available on the Council’s website; www.cornwall.gov.uk/librarysurvey;
  • Downloading and completing a printable copy of the survey questionnaire printable copy of the survey questionnaire from the website;
  • By contacting their local Cornwall Councillor;
  • By email to: libraries@cornwall.gov.uk;
  • Picking up a printed copy of the questionnaire from a library or one stop shop;
  • Requesting a copy of the questionnaire by phone: 0300 1234 111;

Stakeholder Workshops

Stakeholder workshops will be held for our Town and Parish Councils and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise stakeholders, so they can be involved in helping to shape our proposals.

Information days

Information days will be held in May for companies and organisations interested in running part or all of the library and one stop shop service.

A Business Case form is available on the Council’s website for organisations interested in or considering this option.

Dog Fouling in the Plain-an-Gwarry

The Plain-an-Gwarry is owned by the Town Council and it is for the use of all the residents in St Just.  At the present moment mindless individuals are letting their dogs foul within this grassed area and they are spoiling it for the vast majority of people.

Kevin McFadden, Town Mayor has said that “If this continues the Town Council will take necessary legal action to have dogs banned from the Plain.”

Essential Maintenance – Lafrowda Car Park

Lafrowda Car Park, St Just will be closed next Monday 15 December 2014 for white lining.  However, parts of the car park will be re-opened as the lining works are completed in an attempt to keep disruption to a minimum.  The work is also weather dependent as dry conditions are required.
