B3306 Truthwall Mineshaft

Works are due to begin next Monday (5 June) and are expected to be completed in three weeks maybe sooner if all goes well.

A minibus will do an hourly shuttle service so that residents in Carnyorth and Botallack are not without public transport. The shuttle will run to St Just to link up with the service provider and will run for the duration of the closure.

Signage, regarding buses and road closure, will be placed in appropriate places locally so that communication is not just on-line.

The timetable has just been released and can be viewed and downloaded below:

Filming in Pendeen

A letter from Dorothy Street Pictures regarding filming in Pendeen later this summer:

Dear Residents,

We are writing to you as the Producers of an upcoming BBC Films/BFI feature film shooting in Falmouth and Pendeen this Summer by the production company Dorothy St Pictures.

The film is a coming of age story about two 11 year old children who meet on their summer holiday in Cornwall in 1991.

We will be filming in and around Pendeen between 12th August – 2nd September 2022 and are keen to involve the village and residents in the film where possible and to ensure as little disruption to the local area too.

We will be holding a meeting in the Parish Hall, Pendeen at 7pm on Monday 18th July to speak about the film and to answer any questions that you might have about filming and our schedule.

The writer/director Lucy Cohen will be present, as well as producers Julia Nottingham and Ariadne Kotsaki, Laura Giles from Screen Cornwall and Henry Simmons, the Location Manager.

We look forward to discussing the plans for the film, answering any questions and sharing any further information in the meeting.

King regards,
Julia Nottingham & Ariadne Kotsaki

St Just Town Vitality Project

St Just Town Council and Cornwall Council would like to appoint an appropriately qualified firm of consultants to work with The St Just Town Vitality Project Steering Group to prepare a Vision and Implementation Plan for the future of St Just Town Centre. Utilising the collective local knowledge and previous studies and reports, along with the consultant team’s expertise, a St Just Town Centre Vision and Implementation Plan document should be prepared; bringing together a holistic vision for the town centre, which reflects its unique characteristics and ambitions and provides practical recommendations to address issues identified over many years.

Below are links to PDFs for the St Just Parish Plan 2021 to 2030 and St Just Town Centre Vision – Brief:

Respondents are asked to send applications to info@stjust.org marked for the attention of Cas Leo, Town Clerk.

Criminal Damage to a Bus Stop

Graffiti found on a bus stop in the St Just parish

We are sorry to have to report a case of Criminal Damage to a Council-owned bus stop in the parish.

Does anyone recognise the graffiti “artistry” here? We all hope it’s an isolated incident, but if sadly you see any more, or you have any information about this, please do report it to the police quoting this reference: CR/034734/21.

Thank you.

A Councillor… Who Me?

Could You be a Parish or Town Councillor and Take a Lead in Providing Services in Your Community?

A PDF version of this information is available to download: A Councillor… Who Me 2021 (PDF, 175KB)

What Can My Local Council Do?

The powers of a parish or town council are wide and various. The Council exists as the most localised form of government and is there to serve and represent the parish or town and their residents and electors.

  • Playing fields.
  • Special projects.

These are just some of the areas where your parish council can act to improve the town and villages, its amenities and support to local people.

Parish Councils play a major role in local consultation.

  • County consultation on waste, tourism, education and transport.
  • Consultation on planning in your parish, local plans for your area, provision of services within your district and parish.
  • Government consultation on legislation which might affect the future of your village, county, region or country.
  • Forming local policy – neighbourhood plans and emergency plans.

St Just Town Council Awards 2020

The presentation of St Just Town Council’s Annual Awards was very different this year, because of the COVID restrictions. Instead of the normal Feast Reception and Presentations, the Mayor, Marna Blundy, visited each of the recipients in St Just, Botallack and Pendeen, just before the latest lockdown, to give them their awards.
