CASUAL VACANCY ST JUST TOWN COUNCIL

With reference to the public notice published on 7 August 2023 in respect of a casual vacancy on St Just Town Council it has now been confirmed that we received insufficient requests asking that an election be held. We are now able to advertise this and fill the vacancy as soon as possible by co-option.

We ask those interested in the positions to let us know by 2nd October 2023 indicating that you are legally qualified to hold such office, and why you would like to be considered.  You must be someone who fulfils at least one of the following criteria:

(a) is registered as a local government elector for the parish;

(b) has – during the whole of the preceding twelve months- occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish;

(c) has worked principally in the parish during the preceding twelve months;

(d) had during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 4.8 km thereof.

Interviews will take place at the Full Council meeting on Monday 9th October 2023 at 7pm in St Just Library.

Notice is Hereby Given:

pursuant to Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that due to the resignation of Harvey Thomas, a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the above Town Council.

If by 25 August, 2023 (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday and Bank Holidays, after the date of this notice) a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing (by hand or post) to the Proper Officer at the address below by TEN electors* for the said Town, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 30 October, 2023.

B3306 Truthwall Mineshaft

Works are due to begin next Monday (5 June) and are expected to be completed in three weeks maybe sooner if all goes well.

A minibus will do an hourly shuttle service so that residents in Carnyorth and Botallack are not without public transport. The shuttle will run to St Just to link up with the service provider and will run for the duration of the closure.

Signage, regarding buses and road closure, will be placed in appropriate places locally so that communication is not just on-line.

Proposed Cornwall Wide Approach to 20mph Roll Out

Due to the number of enquiries by Towns and Parishes, Cornwall Council has issued a plan detailing their approach:

Carnyorth Education Centre Officially Joins the Aspire Academy Trust

The transfer of the Carnyorth Outdoor Education Centre from Cornwall Outdoors/Cornwall Council to the Aspire Academy Trust was completed at Easter 2023. The opportunity to preserve and develop a residential facility is vital to ensuring primaries are still able to access affordable school camps in a safe and well managed environment, and we are delighted to welcome Carnyorth Education Centre as the second Aspire Outdoors setting within the trust.

Nancherrow Youth Project: Open Evening

The Nancherrow Youth Project is hosting an open evening on 23rd May at 6pm.

This is a chance for our young people to showcase some of their recent artwork. Committee members will also be there to discuss the Project’s future plans.

Refreshments will be available and music by Ocean Town.
