Cornwall Council are phasing out travel assistance on a local route from Truthwall to Cape Cornwall School in St Just.

The Council strongly objects to this and have added our comment to the survey:

The St Just in Penwith Town Council strongly opposes the phasing out of Home to School travel assistance on routes deemed suitable for walking, especially in the area around St Just (Truthwall to Cape Cornwall School) where there is little or no pavements, on a national speed limit (60mph), narrow country lanes, single tracks, no street lighting, uneven paths and stiles and overgrown hedgerows.

The safety of our children is paramount and we strongly object to this cost cutting exercise.

Bosavern Community Farm Harvest Celebration and News

On Sunday 1st October, 12 noon – 4pm, Bosavern Community Farm is hosting a Harvest Open Day.

Expect quality food, stalls, games, tour of the market garden and live entertainment from the Blazing Hearts Chorus & Shindig Cloggers.

You can also Pre-book your bike for an MOT check (inc. basic service)! With limited field parking, visitors are encourageed to arrive by boot, bus or bike where possible, everybody welcome!

Have Your Say on Green Energy in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Cornwall Council is putting on a series of Local Area Energy Plan Events. Full details are available on their Have Your Say on Green Energy page, but the key locations and dates are:

  • Falmouth, Theatre Room, Princess Pavilion – September 5, 4pm-7pm
  • Bude, The Parkhouse Centre – September 8, 4pm-7pm
  • Saltash, The Core – September 12, 4pm-7pm
  • Penzance, St John’s Hall – September 20, 4pm-7pm
  • Bodmin, Cornwall Council, Chy Trevail – September 25, 4pm – 7pm

Note that you can still have your say if you are unable to attend one of the events. St Just Town Council also has a few paper copies of the survey in the Library for anyone without an internet connection.

CASUAL VACANCY ST JUST TOWN COUNCIL

With reference to the public notice published on 7 August 2023 in respect of a casual vacancy on St Just Town Council it has now been confirmed that we received insufficient requests asking that an election be held. We are now able to advertise this and fill the vacancy as soon as possible by co-option.

We ask those interested in the positions to let us know by 2nd October 2023 indicating that you are legally qualified to hold such office, and why you would like to be considered.  You must be someone who fulfils at least one of the following criteria:

(a) is registered as a local government elector for the parish;

(b) has – during the whole of the preceding twelve months- occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish;

(c) has worked principally in the parish during the preceding twelve months;

(d) had during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 4.8 km thereof.

Notice is Hereby Given:

pursuant to Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that due to the resignation of Harvey Thomas, a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the above Town Council.

If by 25 August, 2023 (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday and Bank Holidays, after the date of this notice) a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing (by hand or post) to the Proper Officer at the address below by TEN electors* for the said Town, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 30 October, 2023.

B3306 Truthwall Mineshaft

Works are due to begin next Monday (5 June) and are expected to be completed in three weeks maybe sooner if all goes well.

A minibus will do an hourly shuttle service so that residents in Carnyorth and Botallack are not without public transport. The shuttle will run to St Just to link up with the service provider and will run for the duration of the closure.

Signage, regarding buses and road closure, will be placed in appropriate places locally so that communication is not just on-line.
