Biography
Marna Blundy has lived in Botallack with her husband for nearly forty years; her five sons were all born here, and educated at Cape Cornwall School. 30 years ago she was a founder of the St Just Nursery School; she joined a group attempting to save Bolitho Maternity Home in 1986, and ten years later to preserve Bolitho psycho-geriatric unit. In 1997 she set up West Cornwall HealthWatch with whom she, as co-ordinator, has been campaigning for local health services ever since. Marna attends Pendeen Parish Church with her husband, and has links with all three churches in St Just. After working as a school music teacher in Penwith for twenty-two years, Marna took early retirement from teaching in 2012, and is using her retirement volunteering in the community. This includes working with local businesses and organisations in St Just and Pendeen to promote a Dementia Friendly Community, through her involvement with the Penwith Dementia Action Alliance. In her ‘spare’ time she plays accordion with the Golowan Band.
Marna has a particular concern for children, the elderly, vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community. She is passionate about keeping health services local, and about the problems of transport in rural areas. She wants to work for more community engagement so that the Town Council can effectively represent and serve its people, encouraging and developing a vibrant and supportive community.
