The BBC are currently casting for a new UK travel/property programme. They are looking to find people who live in interesting homes around the UK, who would be happy to try a home swap short break over a weekend in the next few months. Children’s Ark, Pendeen Visit Council Offices

Last Friday, the Town Clerk received an unexpected, but very welcome visit from the Children’s Ark, Pendeen.

About twenty childrP1030207en and staff visited the Council Offices, the purpose of which was to present a “thank you” card from the children for the recent grant that the Town Council had given to the Ark towards the cost of a new outdoor play area. The play area has now been completed and as you can see is thoroughly enjoyed by all.

New Goal Posts for St Just Recreation Ground

The Town Council last night unanimously agreed to accept a quotation from Cornwall Council to provide a new pair junior goal posts at the recreation ground.  The order has been placed and it is hoped that the new posts will be installed in the coming weeks.

Oak Bridge Repair at Portherras

The Friends of Portherras Cove are pleased to announce that thanks to some dedicated fund-finding by Hamish Gordon, Countryside Officer & his team at Cormac, and together with Ian Flindall at Chypraze Farm work is due to commence this week on a brand new oak bridge to span the Rose Valley stream (at the stepping stones). New Website Launched

The new website of St Just-in-Penwith Town Council was officially launched on Thursday 20 February 2014.  Elaine Baker, Town Clerk said “The Council hopes that everyone visiting the site will like the new look, find it easier to use and the information helpful.  We would also welcome feedback so that further improvements can be made to the site in the future.”

Council Co-opts Three New Councillors

At an Extraordinary Meeting of the Town Council held last night, Town Councillors unanimously agreed to co-opt Brian Clemens, Fiona Cock and David Roberts onto the Council to fill the three remaining seats which had remained unfilled since the local elections in May 2013.

Brian Clemens lives in Pendeen and runs a local business in St Just: Fiona Cock lives in Grumbla but has strong connections with St Just.  A retired teacher, Fiona is former head of Nancealverne School, Penzance.  David Roberts, a resident of St Just whose family runs a local business.

All three will take up their seats immediately and will be attending their first meeting on 27 January.

Live Emergency Exercise at Land’s End Airport

Please note that there will be a mandatory live emergency exercise at Land’s End Airport on Wednesday 13th November 2013.  This will commence at approximately 1000 hours and will involve a simulated aircraft incident.  Outside emergency services will attend the incident and this will involve an area not actually on the airfield, but to the north of the site.

Please do not be alarmed at the site of flashing lights etc. in the vicinity.  It is estimated that the exercise will finish approximately 1630 hours.
